Kwabena Boamah-Acheampong is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). An Actuarial Consultant with over 25 years of management experience in the life insurance industry, Kwabena is an astute strategist who excels in all aspects of life product development, competitive market comparison, pricing, underwriting & mortality, expense, filing, reinsurance, systems & admin implementations, product release, and client support.
At Nationwide Financial, Kwabena garnered recognition as an expert in life reinsurance treaty negotiations and implementations. he has successfully negotiated and completed over 500 treaties covering over $70 billion amount at risk with major international reinsurers such as RGA, Swiss Re, SCOR, Hannover, General Re and Munich Re and M-Financial. He is skilled in working with diverse agreements covering Individual and Corporate Life products including specialty plans Combo LTC, COLI/ BOLI, High Net Worth, Indexed UL & VUL, and Proprietary exclusive plans.
Kwabena has a comprehensive background in the life insurance industry focusing on Fixed and Flexible Universal Life plans, Traditional Whole Life, and Term plans as well as associated riders and provisions such as ADB, LTC, Premium Waivers, Secondary Guarantees, Loans, Partial withdrawals, and Inflation. At Nationwide Mutual Company, he re-priced Modified Single Premium Variable Life, Last Survivor Variable Universal Life and Long-Term Care products, which enabled those products to be approved for filing and launched in all states including New York with special exceptions.
He also spearheaded the development of Experience studies including Expected/Actual Mortality Analysis and Expense Studies to support competitive re-pricing, product enhancements, reinsurance, and retention reviews.
Kwabena is an effective communicator in technical and non-technical language to internal and external clients. Kwabena often travels back to Ghana to provide actuarial services to institutions in Ghana with limited actuarial support- In that capacity, he has co-authored the SSNIT Mortality Table (1996-2000), consulted on Bank of Ghana Employee Pension Review (2004), reviewed and signed off on Annual Valuation/Pricing Reports (SIC 2003, 2011-2017), conducted presentations and workshops on hot topics such as Long Term Care, Professionalism and Annuity Market and Product Development to members of the Actuarial Society of Ghana.
Kwabena loves volunteering and is an active member of the International Association of Black Actuaries (IABA) – leads IABA Ohio Affiliate which has a thriving partnership with Columbus Alternative High School Math Department; he has served as past Board of Director of IABA (2012- 2015), a corresponding member of the Actuarial Society of Ghana and is a friend of the SOA Reinsurance Committee.
In Columbus, Kwabena has the singular passion serving as the community chair for GhanapicOhio, a health and wellness festival that attracts over 40 diverse community organizations (churches, associations, businesses, and individuals) to host and celebrate the outdoors whiles bringing community awareness in health, finance, and insurance. Kwabena has completed WHO COVID-19 Operational Planning and Communication Essentials courses to help address misinformation and disinformation, encourage an abundance of caution in the African immigrant community.
Kwabena is a founding member and patron of the Kwahuman Association of Ohio. He is also the Ohio Member Coordinator for a 70-acre Residential and Commercial Estate Project Development in Ampekrom, Ghana. A founding member and ordained Ruling Elder of Ramseyer Presbyterian Church, PC(USA) in Columbus Ohio, Kwabena advocates and organizes the church and community to focus on what really matters. He served as Secretary (2007-14) of the Conference of Ghanaian Presbyterian Churches – North America (CGPC-NA). He volunteers with the Ghana Mission Network-PCUSA and is an active member of the Ghana Prison Ministry. Through his priority initiative and training these organizations have smoothly adopted various electronic social media – WhatsApp, Face book, Zoom meetings and webinars.
Kwabena holds a master’s degree in Mathematics with Actuarial Science concentrations from the University of Connecticut, and Bachelors in Statistics and Economic from the University of Ghana. As a credentialed actuary, Kwabena is compliant with the Annual Continuous Education Certification Programs. In addition, he has completed several Future of Work Courses in Leadership Focusing on Digital, Lead, Innovative & Adapt Learnings.
